چکیده

To date the majority of work on the systemic fungicide phosphite (phosphonate) to control Phytophthora diseases has been conducted on horticultural crops. There is a paucity of work on the control of Phytophthora root and collar rots in natural plant communities. This paper gives an overview of studies conducted in Western Australia which examine the potential of using phosphite in plant communities rich in diversity and heavily impacted by Phytophthora cinnamomi. Details are given on possible beneficial and detrimental effects of using phosphite in natural plant communities to control P. cinnamomi.

Control of Phytophthora cinnamomi by the fungicide phosphite in relation to in planta phosphite concentrations and phytotoxicity in native plant species in Western Australia

Low volume aerial phosphite applications has been used in recent years at rates of up to 24 kg ha" to protect native plant species and communities threatened by Phytophthora cinnamomi while the recommended rate for spray to run-off phosphite application is 5 g L·'. Phosphite uptake and in planta phosphite concentrations in native plant species may vary considerably between species and with appl...

The impact and control of Phytophthora cinnamomi in native and rehabilitated forest ecosystems in Western Australia

Review article] Botanists have likened the impact of Phytophthora cinnamomi in Australian plant communities to that of the last ice age, which affected a large number of plant families, genera and species within these families. Phytophthora cinnamomi affects the floristics and structure of many unique plant communities. We discuss the impact of this pathogen and our current knowledge of its bio...

Phosphorus nutrition of phosphorus-sensitive Australian native plants: threats to plant communities in a global biodiversity hotspot

South-western Australia harbours a global biodiversity hotspot on the world's most phosphorus (P)-impoverished soils. The greatest biodiversity occurs on the most severely nutrient-impoverished soils, where non-mycorrhizal species are a prominent component of the flora. Mycorrhizal species dominate where soils contain slightly more phosphorus. In addition to habitat loss and dryland salinity, a...

Phytophthora Root and Collar Rot in Rehabilitated Bauxite Mines and the Adjacent Eucalyptus Marginata (jarrah) Forest of Western Australia

Western Australia is unique in its botanical diversity. There are over 7000 species of native vascular plants of which over 3000 are endemic (Keighery 1992). Phytophthora cinnamomi has a major impact on this diverse flora and directly effects over 2000 species from a diverse range of plant families (Wills 1993). Its indirect effects in terms of botanical impact through the loss of vertebrate an...

Risks and Threats Due to Genetic Variation in Phytophthora Cinnamomi for Disease Management in Natural Vegetation Ecosystems

Phytophthora cinnamomi is often genetically diverse in disease fronts and diseased areas. P. cinnamomi has considerable ability to produce a wide range of pathogenic phenotypes measured from ‘plant clone by isolate by environmental factor interactions’ in each of the three pathogen clonal lineages of P. cinnamomi isolated in Australia. P. cinnamomi lineages are defined by microsatellite types. ...
